I found my purpose in the Corps. I ask myself often what the heck have I been doing for the last 19 years?

Healing.

I’m about to be 44 years old next week & I’ve spent the greater part of 19 years healing myself, learning about myself, about life. I’ve gained a partner and a bunch of puppies. I’ve lost puppies too. My best girl.

There are upsides to having a TBI like getting to rewatch your favorite shows over because you don’t remember the outcome. A downside is that my cognitive skills need work all.of.the.time. I’ve read two books (and currently on my third) THIS YEAR for the first time since I was injured. One of those books is YOU ARE CHANGING THE WORLD by David LaMotte. This post isn’t about the book but the author mentions on a few occasions that we can’t do it all on our own. That we need to focus on what matters to us as individuals the most. Then find our community. So. I feel it is my duty to focus on the military, gay rights and fight for gay rights within the military.

That brings me to this. Scrolling through social media this week, a Philadelphia Phillies group popped up with an article about BH not wanting to participate in the annual regular season Pride game held on June 20th. (The post has since been removed) however I noticed a distant cousin loved the article. Being the researcher that I am, confirmed that it was an opinion piece and there were no facts behind the words written. While MLB has various promotional nights throughout the season including but not limited to Italian-American, Star Wars, Latino, even Hello Kitty, Pride always seems to be a topic of discussion.

I don’t have a very supportive family when it comes to LGBTQ rights, shoot even basic human rights but why did he love this article? I asked him to state his source, unfortunately with no follow through.

People all over the city, the country who saw this post were loving a lie. A lie that a Major League future hall of fame baseball player would be refusing to play in a such a game. Why do you think people are quick to click the like, dislike, or love button without doing their own research?

In case you didn’t know same sex marriage is only legal in 15% of the world, 69 countries have laws that could criminalize a human for homosexuality. History is WHY we have Pride month. Do your research, ask questions, LISTEN to stories.
